PC Bob Oddy - On the Beat with the Trident Police Team

The Trident Police Team have worked hard to deal with both off-road and quad
type bikes that are being used in the BD5 area. As I have stated before in this column these vehicles are illegal and dangerous. There are NO designated places within BD5 for these to be used. All persons using them MUST have insurance and a driving licence to be legal and Section 59 of the Police Reform Act gives Police the power of seizure of these vehicles.

Trident officers recently completed a night-time operation with officers from
HM Immigration service. This operation included two addresses within the Trident area. Arrests were made by the officers for immigration offences and intelligence was
gained on other similar matters. The Trident Police would welcome any
information about any suspected Immigration offences or offenders to be
passed to them.

Residents in the West Bowling area will be aware of a Fatal Road Accident
that took place in October on New Cross Street, involving a 21 year old
local male. The Police are actively dealing with this, Arrests have been
made and enquiries are on going. The Trident Police Team would urge any persons
to come forward with any information that may well help progress this
matter on the numbers below.

On a more positive note the new park facilities have opened off Parkside
Road, and the we are providing high profile attention to the
area to make sure that this superb "play area" won't fall prey to any
anti-social behaviour from the small minority of persons who may wish to
spoil it for the majority who will use it safely and responsibly.

Speaking of Anti-social Behaviour, the Police have now charged a young
local male with a string of Public Order Offences following a 3 month long
enquiry into his behaviour along with a small group of other local males in
and around the Darnay Lane, Steerforth Close areas. He has been served with an ASBO warning letter in regard to his behaviour, and we, along with officers from BCHT Tenancy Enforcement Team, are looking into dealing with him in the longer term to prevent him causing any further problems or issues with other vulnerable persons. We wish to stress that anti-social behaviour will NOT be tolerated, and the Police are working hard to deal positively with any identified offenders.

Trident officers also attended a training session for awareness on other
European communities that have recently moved into the area. This session
was attended by various partners to increase our understanding and
awareness of the cultural differences that have become apparent and what help
and support agencies can give to help these new communities that come to
integrate within the Trident area.

I would like to than the Police Community Support Officers, Pauline Smith
and Zaheer Bulbul, for their hard work and dedication to help and support
the Trident officers, and the community. They are a vital link in the work we are able to complete and undertake.

On behalf of all the Trident officers may I wish everyone a Happy New Year! We can be contacted on 376668. Or contact CRIMESTOPPERS anonymously on 0800 555 111.
