Both the Park Lane Centre and the Mayfield Centre were part funded by the European Regional Development Fund. A wide variety of local organisations also received cash for projects aimed at increasing and improving services to the community. Mayfield and Park Lane Centres These two centres received just over £1m to contribute to their building costs. The recently opened Park Lane Centre is beginning to replicate the success of the Mayfield Centre by becoming a focal point for local community activity whilst at the same time providing courses and business rental units. West Bowling Youth Initiative The Youth Action Project helped young people into training and in particular encouraged young people to become involved in volunteering to help with local community activities. West Bowling Youth Initiative supports and runs many local events and activities and many of it’s members are also involved with Bowling Old Lane Cricket Club. Pan African Arts and Cultural Group Euro cash enabled this group to employ a development worker to help strengthen the capacity of the organisation both in terms of encouraging more members and also in terms of ensuring it’s sustainability. The Light of the World Centre An After School Club was organised by the Light of the World Centre to cater for the needs of local children and to help raise educational standards in a non school environment. Some other groups that made successful bids included: West Bowling Training and Advice Centre – Advice 4 U, Attock Community Association - ACA Community Programme, Bazm-e-Urdu – Aaina, Peacemakers – Hands-on Project, MAPA – Traineeships, Newton Street Mosque – Day Centre Manager, Olmek Media – Refurbishment Project, Hutson Street – World Enterprise, Ilmyat Women’s Group – Women’s Club, FACE – Older People’s Outreach Development Project, The Foyer – Education And Training Project, Council for Mosques – Striving Forward.
